Conditioning Monitoring and Diagnostic Methods
The value of the Norwegian power grid is estimated to be NOK 150 billion. As the system ages, the need for maintenance increases. The liberalization of the energy market introduced by new legislation in the ´90, has resulted in an increased awareness of the costs related to such maintenance.

In order to implement cost-effective maintenance, there is a need for condition monitoring techniques, and, if possible, estimate the remaining lifetime of components. We contribute to these aspects with our knowledge in the ageing of materials and by developing new tools for diagnostic measurements. The photograph to the right shows an example of a method and instrument we have developed in cooperation with manufacturers and power utilities. The instrument is commercialized and marketed world-wide through a Norwegian company.
