Most of our activity in this field is focused on thermochemical processes for the energy production from solid fuels, primary biomass and waste. The group is engaged in contract work for the manufacturers and users of this type of technology and both long-term development projects and specific applications are considered.

The group has recognized expertise in burner development studies and also cooperates with domestic and international manufacturers of combustion equipment. This work includes the development of dedicated software and a laboratory test rig that is built to Norwegian standards for the environmental testing of such types of equipment. Other specialist areas are the technology and processes required to produce energy-carrying products such as charcoal, pyrolytic oil and gas from biomass.
