Tools

Our goal is to be the most advanced user of the most advanced commercially available tools for flow-modelling. That way, we are able to provide our customers with the assistance they need. The Flow Technology group has long experience with, and is an advanced user of, several types of commercially available computing tools for mathematical modelling and simulation. Examples:

  • ANSYS FLUENT (flow calculations, CFD)
  • LedaFlow (multi-phase flow calculations)
  • Olga (multi-phase flow calculations)
  • EDEM (particle simulations)
  • Comsol Multiphysics (multi-physics modelling and simulations)
  • Matlab (numerical mathematics)
  • Maple (symbolical mathematics)

We manage and operate our own heavy calculations fascility in order to perform the heaviest and most complex calculations without any problems.

Where commercially available software and models prove insufficient, Flow Technology has extensive competence in developing models and software. We master the necessary programming languages for building modelling tools and user interfaces, for example:

  • SOFT (framework for simulation development, developed by us)
  • Fortran
  • C++
  • Qt
  • SQL

For visualization and post processing of calculated and measured data, we use several computer tools such as:

  • PhotoShop (image processing)
  • CAD (technical drawing)
  • Tecplot 360 (post processing, visualization)

For verification of calculated data and support of physical models, we use experiments done in laboratories, and field-measurements done with our customers. In many cases, knowledge about complex phenomena may only be obtained if modelling-development and experiments occur simultaneously in close interaction. We have our own water model lab for experimental modelling of physical high-temperature processes. We also have experimental equipment for measurements of temperature, pressure, force and torque (moment), velocities, composition, etc. (PIV, LDV, high speed camera, thermal camera, thermo-elements for high temperatures, and more). WIthin SINTEF we have broad competence in measurement techniques and experimental methods. In addition, we have access to advanced experimental measuring equipment within SINTEF in all of the company's research areas.
