SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture was established as a separate company in 1999, but several of the staff has much longer experience from international project work. They have managed and carried out projects in coastal nations all over the world.

A majority of the international work so far has been carried out in developing countries. By supporting developing nations one supports a sustainable development while at the same time opening up for Norwegian business in cooperation with local companies. The majority of the customers are development funds, banks, international institutes and government ministries.

SINTEF has been involved in Vietnam since 1993. The activity has been increasing and also spread to other countries in the region (Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan). The experience and contacts developed during this period are increasingly used by international companies planning to conduct business in this region.

The missions carried out include various projects from small desk appraisals to multidisciplinary evaluations, which often include travels to locations and a multidisciplinary project team.
