Concepts for buildings
We are working on concepts for buildings that are energy-efficient and have a low environmental impact and a good indoor climate.

Developing and passing on knowledge of cost-effective low-energy housing and passive houses is an important field of research, and we work in close collaboration with the Norwegian Housing Bank and the public energy efficiency and conservation entity Enova SF.

Reducing heat losses
Both low-energy housing and passive houses are based on the philosophy of significantly reducing heat losses from dwellings.

This can be done by super-insulating the external structure, installing windows and doors with very low heat losses, making buildings airtight and installing a ventilation system with high-efficiency heat recovery.

The remaining need for heat should be met as far as possible by environmentally friendly sources of energy.

Budget doubled
We have supported a number of construction projects with research-based specialist consultancy services, where the aim has been to achieve “passive house” standard. In February, ZEB, a centre for zero-emissions construction, became one of eight “Research Centres for Environmentally Friendly Energy” that will receive funding from the Research Council of Norway for an eight-year period. ZEB focuses on energy saving measures, which are the least expensive way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
