Statistical studies and surveys

SINTEF NBL carry out statistical research work to identify and explain growth trends as regards to fire damage in the society and within special fields. The intention is to measure the effect of fire prevention and the cost- benefit evaluation.  Fire statistics from authorities and research in Norway as well as in other countries showing damages for fire losses, fire-brigade turn-outs, number of fatalities in fires are used in the studies.

  • Analysis of DSB's statistics regarding fire in buildings in the periode 1994-2003 (see Publications, NBL A04122 in Norwegian).
  • Part 1 of the project Fire hazard in the Nordic countries (in Norwegian), was completed in collaboration with NBI.
    The report from part 1 has the title Development of Fire Losses in Norway compared with other Nordic countries (report NBL A05127 in Norwegian).
  • Part 2 - "Causes and differences" and part 3 - "Measures to reduce fire losses" (report NBL A06116 and NBL A08111) are also available in Norwegian.
  • Evaluations of actions against fire.
    Have smoke alarms, portable extinguishers and sprinklers had any effect on fire safety in Norway? (In Norwegian).  (See also Publications, STF22 A00853 in Norwegian).
  • A comparison study of incendiary fires in domestic and industry/official buildings in Norway in 1996 and 1997. (In Norwegian). (See also Publications, NBL10 A02106 in Norwegian).
  • Deceases due to building fires. An analysis of  fatal building fires in the period from 1978 to 1992.  (See also Publications, STF25 A94008 in Norwegian).
