New fire safety guidance for churches
SINTEF NBL has assisted Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB), KA (Church employer and interest group) and the Directorate of Cultural Heritage in the preparation of an instruction manual (guidance) for the church management and the fire brigade.

The guidance is is a tool for solving the many challenges that arises in connection with supervision of a church.

Inside Malvik ChurchThe guidance is ment to help both church management and fire brigades to obtain the same understanding of which regulations applies and which possibilities exists, so that all field of interest are ensured. Because churches often are older buildings, buildt according to former requirements, one can often question the fire safety. Conflicts can arise between for instance requirements under the  Act of Cultural Heritage and the fire protection regulations.

In connection with the preparation of the guidance SINTEF NBL has also carried out an analysis of evacuation from a church gallery in two different churches.

The guidance is available in Norwegian only.
