KV Ventus B.V., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation Ltd. (Keppel) has today entered into a share purchase and subscription agreement and shareholders’ agreement to acquire a 49.9% stake in offshore wind turbine foundation designer OWEC Tower (AS) for about NOK 61 million. (January 2012)

On January 1st Michael Muskulus will start at NTNU as new Associate Professor in Offshore Wind Turbine Technology at the Department of Civil and Transport Engineering, taking over the former group of Prof. Geir Moe and his responsibilities in the NOWITECH Scientific Committee. The work of his group is focused on wind turbine substructure design, analysis and optimization, from a broad interdisciplinary perspective that includes aerodynamics, wave forces, parallel simulation and stochastic approaches. (21 December 2011)
Norwegian start-up WindFlip is looking for a first assignment for its slimline transport barge following a redesign that would make it able to handle 5-6MW floating offshore wind turbines. (14 December 2011)
Norwegian floating turbine designer WindSea has turned its hand to a cost-cutting modularised four-legged jacket concept for 5MW machines that it believes could speed up the installation of offshore foundation structures by a factor of four. (14 December 2011)
First WindFloat Successfully Deployed Offshore (30 November 2011)
Amsterdam, NL (EWEA Offshore 2011) - November 30th, 2011 - Principle Power, Inc. (Principle Power) and Energias de Portugal (EDP) are pleased to announce the successful offshore deployment of a full-scale 2-megawatt (MW) WindFloat off the coast of Aguçadoura, Portugal. This installation represents the beginning of a new sector in the offshore wind industry and is the result of continued hard work by all WindPlus JV partners including: EDP, Principle Power, A. Silva Matos (ASM), Vestas Wind Systems A/S, InovCapital, and Fundo de Apoio à Inovação (FAI). In addition over 60 other European vendors participated.
